Rocket, our Black Lab, is a 2001 graduate of Happy Tail’s In-Home Puppy Training. Rocket was a rambunctious 35 pound 4 month old “wild child” when we started training. We were at our wits’ end. Rocket was our first dog and we didn’t have a clue about training. Debbe’s efficient 4 week training program helped us become good dog owners. She was very patient with us and the dog while training. The notes and homework assignments helped us learn how to work with Rocket. Debbe’s support did not end when formal training was completed, she has been willing to answer our questions over the years.
Rocket is still rambunctious, but he is now a well-trained 95 pound Lab. The Happy Tail’s in-home training program gave us the confidence to recently add another Lab to our household (also trained by Debbe). We strongly recommend the Happy Tail’s In-Home Puppy Training to anyone with a new puppy. A well-trained happy dog is worth the time and effort.

Behavior Consultations – 1 session, 1 hour
What is the first step when I sign my dog up for Happy Tails training?
A behavior consultation is the first step when beginning a training program. It allows us to assess your dog’s individual personality as well as the relationship between the dog and the owner. We use this information to put together a customized training program for your dog.
At this session, we will complete a behavioral profile, observe your dog’s behavior and temperament, discuss origins of problem behaviors if there are any, discuss management and behavior modification, outline exercises that can help change your dog’s behavior immediately, and answer any questions you may have.
If you enroll your dog in a ten day or longer training program, the fee for the behavior consultation is deducted from the training fee.
Board and Train – number of days based on your schedule, minimum of 10-14 days for Cincinnati Board and Train
Can you train my dog while I am gone on vacation? Absolutely!
We offer Board and Train at Puppywood Pet Resort, Cincinnati’s premier daycare and boarding facility. While your dog boards at Puppywood Pet Resort, we will work with your dog multiple times per day using our exclusive Leash-Free™ methodology. When you return, we will teach you how to continue to train your dog and reinforce all of the good behavior he has learned.
Using our methodology, we teach the following behaviors:
Your dog will learn to:
- Come when called
- Sit and stay until released
- Down and stay until released
- Go to his or her place and stay until released
- Walk on a loose leash and not pull on the leash
- Mind his manners around strangers
Your dog will learn not to:
- No jumping on people – family members or strangers
- No uncontrollable barking
- No stealing food off counters and tables
- No jumping on furniture
- No running out doors or up stairs

Day School – 10-14 days
Can I leave my dog with you for the day for training? Absolutely!
We offer Day School training at Puppywood Pet Resort, Cincinnati’s premier daycare and boarding facility. While your dog enjoys the state-of-the-art daycare at Puppywood Pet Resort, we will work with your dog multiple times per day using our exclusive Leash-Free™ methodology. You pick him up and take him home at the end of each day. At the end of ten sessions, we will teach you how to continue to train your dog and reinforce all of the good behavior he has learned.
Using our methodology, we teach the following behaviors: Your dog will learn to:
- Come when called
- Sit and stay until released
- Down and stay until released
- Go to his or her place and stay until released
- Walk on a loose leash and not pull on the leash

Drop ‘n’ Shop – 5 days
What if my dog doesn’t need 10 days of day school training?
We offer a short term (five day) program in conjunction with Puppywood Pet Resort. This is the immediate solution for rowdiness! Drop your dog off for daycare and training on five consecutive days while you head to the mall or to work. Debbe will train excellent leash manners, plus you’ll get a reliable Leash-Free™ recall … even under distracting conditions. At the end of five sessions, we will teach you how to continue to train your dog and reinforce all of the good behavior he has learned. This program is appropriate for non-aggressive dogs who are six months or older.
